Traffic in Dar es Salaam is mainly concentrated on its four major roads commencing in its centre leading out of the city. Only a few secondary tamarc roads exist, while the majority of the secondary roads are gravel roads which are difficult to use especially during rainy season. As a result of the city's monocentric structure, the limited number of secondary tamarc roads among other factors, Dar es Salaam is experiencing heavy traffic congestion on a daily basis. This has various negative impacts on the environment, the economy and people's health condtions due to severe air pollution, high and costly fuel consumption, wastage of working time and delay in service delivery,...
