The right to the city - A request and sign of respect and tolerance. Brazil.

February 23, 2018

There is a very subtle line between what is acceptable and what is not in the urban space. No wonder traffic signs are such a trademark in the city's landscape: they show clearly what is mandate by the law. The rules are not so simple for affective relationships, gender identities and sexuality. A series of customs, norms of behavior and sometimes even laws have prevented people from having the right to live freely their sexuality and their identities. For the LGBT community, as well as for any minority group, the right to the city is a request and a sign of respect and tolerance. In Brazil, the Bandeyra movement displays the brazilian flag with a rainbow (the collors of the LGBT movement) and in pink and baby blue (the trans-gerder colors), it communicates and serves as an affirmative reference point for the pursuit of the rights of love.
